Milestone in month 11
Yeah! Colton doesn't need to be nursed any more! The weaning process started when he was 10 months old. I substituted one feeding by formula and it took me a whole month to wean him from me completely. I didn't get engorged and everything went so smoothly. Now he only takes 3 bottles a day and sleep thru the night from 9pm to 7am. Another new acheivement is that he started to clap on April 21, 06. Oh! On April 17, his nose bleed 3 times that day. I was not too worry about that since I have the same problem when I was a baby too. I noticed the way he plays is a bit different now. He loves pressing buttons. When he couldn't get something that he wants, he would squeeze some tears out of his eyes. I called that fake tears. But he is a lot more fun to play with now.

Sleep problem in month 9 and 10
Oh! My God! Colton turned 9 months old the second day we came back from Hong Kong. He woke up 4 to 5 times a night. Sometimes he could stay awake for an hour or two. The worst night he woke up at 2 and I put him down then he woke up and I put him down. This cycled repeated for couple times and it took me 3 hours to put him back to sleep. A week after we came back. He got chicken pox. Yes, chicken pox. I didn't believe it either but that was what he had. I'm sure that he got it from Hong Kong since the incubation time is 2 weeks. And 2 weeks ago we were at our friend's son 1st birthday party. Now with the jet lag from the trip, plus the new tricks he learned, plus the chicken pox, his sleep cycle was broken into pieces. He was a good sleeper before, now he turned to another baby at night. It's terrible. He pulled himself up in his crib and cried out loud and asked for help. For God's sake, he just learned how to pull himself up but not able to sit back down. So we had to rescue him a couple times during the night. He forgot he could suck his thumb to sooth himself to sleep. It was really stressful for us and for him. About 2 weeks after coming back, he woke up once a night. But he could stay awake for 1 hour. I tried giving him water, singing him a lullaby, nursing him, etc. Nursing is the easiest way to calm him down without fighting with him, but I know he doesn't need that feeding anymore. So last week, I called the public health nurse for help and I got some books from the library that are recommended. Now Colton is under sleep training. Every time he wakes up at the middle of the night, we let him cried for about 10 mins then go to him and check if every thing is fine and he's safe. Then we waited a little longer each time until he fall asleep on his own. The whole process took us almost 2 hours. Every night was like a battle. We also found out that he behave a lot better with Chris. So I asked Chris to do it at night. The night before last night we used the baby monitor to watch him instead of going into his room every certain minutes, he finally fell asleep on his own in a awkard position. He was kneeling with his face was on the mattress. Last night he just fussed a little and fell asleep with his awkard position again. Twenty minutes after, I put a blanket on him then he WOKE UP! He stood up and cried like the nights before! Then Chris went in and he took less then 3 minutes to put him down. We'll see how Colton is doing tonight.

Jan 22, 06 to Feb 11, 06 Our Trip to HK
Colton and us went back to Vancouver a couple before going to Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. The weather in Hong Kong was like the summer in Saskatoon, but people there really dressed like having a cold winter. The other day, I remembered it was about 18 to 20 degree celsius, I saw baby bundled up like what I did for Colton when it's -15 in Saskatoon. That baby was in a tuque and snowsuit. I was shocked. Colton was wearing a short sleeve!

In the trip, we noticed that Colton knew who his mommy and daddy are. He would never cling to us at home. But he cried like crazy in order to get me or Chris. Actually everything was good except his sleep. He was ok in the long flight. He cried when he was sleepy coz he couldn't find the best position to sleep. Well, He used to sleep on his own in his crib in his own room. But we have to flexible on this in our trip. Colton was co-sleeping with me in Vancouver. Since he was able to crawl, I won't stay with him until he was asleep. In Hong Kong, he slept in a crib in the same room that we stayed. But if we stayed over night at Chris' sister's house, then we have to co-sleep. Also, in Hong Kong he learned how to pull himself up in his crib and he learned how to sit himself up. All these new tricks cause another sleeping problem when we came back home.

Milestone in month 8
He has 8 teeth now. He got 6 teeth during the Christmas holidays. He has 4 on top and 4 on the bottom. He sits so well now he doesn't need a pillow behind him just in case he fall. He started creeping a week before he turned 8 months. He just creeped for a step or 2 and didn't know he can use this skill to go places he wanted. Now he's a week past 8 months and he's creeping faster and farther. He likes to go places where he's not suppose to. He can pass toy from one hand to another and drop it on the floor. He likes to say "boo" when he has a mouth full of food. He can put his hands together and move them up and down from his forehead to his tummy. He's on chicken but yogurt is still his favourite food. I started put him at the child care once a week for an hour so I can go to the gym. He did well so far. He can roll to his left and right with no problem at all. Changing diaper is like a battle now. He would roll from back to tummy and try to creep and reach for things. He can pick up Cheerios and put it in his mouth most of the time with no problem. Now I'm training him on sippy cup and the open top cup. Time passes too fast. Baby's first year is full of excitement.

Milestone in month 7
Colton can sit on his own! But I have to sit him up. He'll fall backwards ocasionally but not very often. He slept on his tummy twice in his life. He loves twisting his body when changing diaper. He had 2 teeth at 5.5 months and he has 4 more coming at the same time. The top 2 and the bottom side ones. No wonder he's waking up every hour or two at night. He loves to turn to his tummy during play time. He'll flip to his tummy almost instantly if he's laying on his back. He still can only flip to his right side. He found his voice and he loves making fun of it by saying things at different pitches. I tried giving him Nutrios (Cheerios) on Dec 31, 2005. He tried to grab it using his whold hand and tried to eat his whole fist. Then He picked it up using thumb and index finger but he put his last 2 fingers in his mouth. Even if he can pick it up doesn't mean that he can put it in his mouth. Way to go Colton!

Milestone in month 6
He can sit up without support for a longer period of time, about 10 mins. He can shake his rattle and he tries to bang his hand on different object and see if he can make any sound. He loves watching our cat. He's eating solid too! He's tried rice, oat and wheat cereal, green beans, zuccini, squash, yam, green peas and banana. His favorite food is oat cereal and squash. He loves going to his swimming lesson and splashing water. He loves to sit up in his tub when having a bath. He also can grap toys under the water too. He can say more things now, like Gee, Nai nai, ma ma, ba ba, mum mum, vu, yee, tsee......

Milestone in month 5
He can roll! Oops! I shouldn't say that, he can flip from tummy to back first, then about a week later, he's able to flip from back to tummy. He has 1 tooth on Oct 20 and another one came on Oct 29. They're both the front lower teeth. He tries to sit up but almost always lean to the front. But when he was 1 week to 6 months, he could sit for a minute or 2 without support. He loves watching the fishy in our aquarium, we called it his private TV with fishy channel. And he notice we have a cat at home!

Staying home for a month!
Being a new mom is not easy. Especially if you need to stay home for the first month after giving birth. It's the chinese tradition that new mom needs to stay home and avoid any wind from outside in the first month after the baby's born. Otherwise, there would be a great chance of getting arthritise in the older age. That's why I, as a new mom, am staying at home all day execpt for Colton's body check up.

The cord fell off!
The cord finally fell off on May 22, 2005 when Colton was 10 days old. Chris was changing the diaper and I found out that the cord was missing. We didn't know where it went. We finally found it in the cleaned laundry. It's been washed and cleaned in the washing machine. Isn't that funny! Changing diaper is a lot easier now.
